Peak High Mountaineering is South Africa’s leader in guided hiking and mountaineering. We conduct tours and courses in a variety of destinations in southern Africa, including the Drakensberg, Cape Town, Cederberg, Magaliesberg and Free State.
The Drakensberg is the highest mountain range in South Africa and is a vast area of rugged mountains that is a hiking paradise. Due to its natural beauty and biodiversity value, the Drakensberg area was also declared a World Heritage Site. We offer hiking tours to all regions, including Mount-aux-Sources, Cathedral Peak, Champagne Castle and Sani Pass. These tours are all guided by professional, qualified mountain guides. They can be anything from easy two-day hikes up to multi-day treks, with or without porters. We also offer rock and ice climbing trips to the most impressive peaks, where clients can feel the exhilaration of climbing large peaks, deep in a wilderness area. Snow and ice climbs are in condition between June and August each year.
The highest mountain in southern Africa is Thabana Ntlenyana (3 482m or 11 424ft) and is situated in the Kingdom of Lesotho, just west of Sani Pass. The highest peak within the borders of South Africa is Mafadi (3 450m or 11 322ft) and is located in the central Drakensberg. The entire uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park, which contains the Drakensberg Mountains, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, preserved for is natural fauna, flora and cultural heritage. It consists of an escarpment that runs for more than 240-kilometers, starting at Sentinel Peak in the north and ending at the Devil’s Knuckles in the south.
South Africa has a vast number of challenging rock-climbing venues, such as the Cederberg, Table Mountain, Swinburne and the Magaliesberg. Single or multiday climbing tours of these regions and others are available.
We also conduct climbing expeditions on request to Mt. Kenya, Spitzkop in Namibia, the European Alps, the Andes and the Rwenzori Mountains of Uganda.
Peak High Mountaineering is also a certified Mountain Development Trust (MDT) service provider. We offer both certified and recreational courses in skills such as abseiling, mountain walking and rock and ice climbing.
