About Peak High Mountaineering and Gavin Raubenheimer
Peak High Mountaineering has conducted trekking and climbing trips with people from all over the world, who have without exception expressed satisfaction with the high level of service and safety.

Most guided trips are conducted with only one or two clients at a time. Outings are deliberately kept small and informal. Gavin is also available to guide clients in other countries on special request. Previously he has guided in Peru, Switzerland and Bolivia.
Peak High is owned by Gavin Raubenheimer and has been operating since 1992. (Close Corporation CK 97 /24826/23) The business is registered with Tourism KwaZulu-Natal as a Tour Operator. The Peak High office is situated in Hilton, just outside Pietermaritzburg.
![]() Gavin Raubenheimer | Gavin Raubenheimer is a certified Mountaineering Instructor (M.I.A.) endorsed by the Mountain Development Trust of SA and the U.I.A.A. He is a NQF National Mountaineering, Cultural and Nature Guide (NQF level 4). He is sponsored by first Ascent outdoor clothing company and by RAM Mountaineering, importers of Black Diamond Equipment, Beal Ropes, Cascade Designs, Bibler and E3 gear. Gavin is a past President of the KwaZulu-Natal Section of the Mountain Club of SA. He has been involved in mountain rescue since 1992 and since 2005 has been the Convener of Mountain Rescue in the province. This involves organising, instructing and leading mountain rescues in the Drakensberg and any other area of the province. In 2000 he represented South Africa at the BMC International High Performance meet in Wales and again in 2005 at the MC of S International Ice meet in Scotland. Since 1978 he has climbed at almost every major venue in southern Africa and many other mountain areas, including the Andes, Canadian Rockies, French and Swiss Alps, the Atlas Mountains, Kilimanjaro and Mt. Kenya. Gavin has guided in Peru, Mt Kenya, Mauritius, Namibia and Switzerland. To date Gavin has made over 70 first ascents of rock and ice climbs in South Africa. He has written guide books and on-line route guides to his home area of KwaZulu-Natal. He also has a National Diploma in Horticulture. ![]() Colin Mc Coy | Colin McCoy is a assistant guide and instructor for Peak High. He holds an Advanced Mountain Walking Leader and Single Pitch Supervisor Award (MDT) as well as an NQF Abseil and Single Pitch Rock Climbing Unit Standard and is a Nature Site Guide Level 2. He is registered with Tourism KwaZulu-Natal. Colin is also a Technical Team member of the Mountain Club's rescue team. He has been trekking since 1999 and rock and ice climbing since 2003. |
![]() Hannelie Morris | Hannelie Morris is an assistant guide and instructor. She has been rock climbing since 1999 and holds the MDT Rock Climbing Leader certificate. At present she is the Honorary Secretary of the Mountain Club, KZN Section and a member of the Technical Rescue Team. While spending two years working in the UK, Hannelie hiked and climbed all over Britain and in Italy. Since returning to South Africa she has beenbased in KZ-N, climbing as often as possible, which includes recent ascents of Icidi Pencil and the Pyramid in the Drakensberg. In May 2008 Hannelie represented South Africa at the BMC International Rock Climbing Meet in Wales. Hannelie also helps in the office and answers emails when Gavin is away guiding. |
