In late May, I had the privilege of spending 5 days rock climbing and mountaineering with Simon Laker from the United Kingdom.
Simon was in southern Africa on business, and being a keen climber of more than 30 years, he contacted Peak High to see what could be offered.
We spent the first night bivvying at Sentinel Cave and then did the old favorite, Angus- Leppan route on the north face of Sentinel peak. After a night at Witsieshoek Hotel, we headed back up the peak to climb a newly established, 7-pitch sport route called, MCM (grade 19 A0 or grade 21 if free climbed). This turned out to be the highlight of the trip, and we spent a beautiful day, on what turned out to be a fairly serious route.
After this we moved to near the town of Harrismith and stayed in a wooden chalet in the game reserve of Eagle Rock. After some climbing here the last day was spent at Swinburne doing the uber 8 pitch classic, Long Bolt to Freedom.
