Intermediate
INTERMEDIATE ROCK CLIMBING COURSE
Duration: 2 Days (8am to 3pm)
Venue: Usually at the Monteseel cliffs, outside Durban. It can also be run in other areas on request.
About the course
This course is designed to give a good basic grounding in traditional rock climbing. It is particularly useful to sport climbers who want to move on to traditional climbing. At the end of the course most people will feel ready to tackle single and multi pitch traditional climbing routes without major supervision.
On the first day participants will learn about placing traditional gear and setting up top-rope, abseil and belay anchors. This day will also include seconding and hopefully leading one or two traditional climbing routes, as well as abseiling.
The second day is spent seconding and leading multi pitch traditional climbing routes.
High safety standards are adhered to at all times and clients are individually instructed and cared for at all times. The course is very much a “hands on” lesson and instruction is carried out as the day progresses.
They are also shown how to climb with good style and technique. Participants need previous climbing experience. They need to be able to belay and lead sport routes. They need to know how to tie knots, manage ropes, use harnesses and other climbing equipment. Participants are encouraged to use whatever gear they have, but most gear can be provided if necessary. They need to bring some refreshments, hat, sun cream and food for the day.
Cost: R1600 per person (2 days)
