About Peak High Mountaineering and Gavin Raubenheimer
For more than 33 years, Peak High Mountaineering has led hikes and climbs all over southern Africa’s most iconic mountain ranges including the Drakensberg, Table Mountain and Spitzkop in Namibia. Gavin offers bespoke, safe guided expeditions and enriching experiences for adventurers of all levels. Guided climbs and hikes are carefully designed for individuals or small groups. Different training courses are also on offer as well as services such as mountain and trail running event safety, military special forces training and risk assessments for schools.
Gavin Raubenheimer
Gavin Raubenheimer is the owner of Peak High Mountaineering. He holds the unit standards, NQF level 8 Alpine Guide, Nature and Culture guide and Mountaineering Instructor Award. Gavin is a past president of the Mountain Club of South Africa, KZN Section where he led the search and rescue unit for 17 years. He has been awarded Life Membership for services to rescue. Included in his guiding career, he has led groups in Peru, Boliva, Morocco, Canada, France, Italy, Switzerland, Jordan, Uganda, Kenya and Mauritius. He is also used as an expert witness in legal cases. When not guiding, Gavin is exploring new routes, training and mentoring aspiring guides, or volunteering for mountain rescue initiatives.
Mlaya Miya
Mlayo has been hiking in the Drakensberg for more than 25 years and has completed the Grand Traverse and the highest mountains in South Africa and Lesotho several times. He holds the Mountain Walking Guide qualification and the Walking Group Leader Award. Mlayo guides many of the Peak High hiking trips. Living in the rural Mnweni area of the Drakensberg, he brings immense cultural and mountain knowledge to the hikes he guides for Peak High. Mlayo speaks Zulu, English and Sotho.
Mel Sparrow
Mel is our office administrator, running the accounts, course registrations, website and social media. She has an excellent knowledge of the tourism sector and ensures the office runs smoothly and efficiently. Mel holds an MSc in Tourism Management and Marketing (UK).
