Mountain Bike Trails

 

Peak High Mountaineering also offers 1 day and 2 day mountain bike outings in the Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal, Sani Pass or Cathedral Peak single track.

These outings are conducted with only one or two clients at a time. Clients need to provide their own bikes and helmets. A back-up vehicle is provided and the Guide rides with you all the way. Meals, transport and accommodation are included in the price. Clients need to be fit and have had single track experience on for all these tours.

 

KZN Midlands

The KZN Midlands offers many kilometres of single track riding in the Hilton and Karkloof areas. We offer half and full day rides on perfect single track trails.

Mikes’ Pass and Cathedral Peak single track mountain biking trip: 2 days

This southern Drakensberg trip is based from Cathedral Peak campsite. Day one is spent riding the single track paths in the Umlambonja valley (18kms of rough single track). Then on day two we ascend Mike’s Pass, which is an old 4×4 track. This is a 5km rough climb to the top of the pass. From there we do an 8km circular route on single track and roads. Peak High provides meals, tent and backup.

Sani Pass summit mountain biking tour:  1 day

This ride starts at the South African border post at the bottom of the pass. A 9 km ride up the 4×4 track to the Sani Top Chalet, where refreshments are provided. The climb to the top is hard going as the start is at 1600m ASL and the top is 2850m ASL. The ride up to the top takes about 3 hours and the down run about 30 minutes! Valid passports are needed to enter Lesotho.

Highest point in southern Africa, Thabana Ntlenyana 3451m, via Sani Pass. 2 days

The small mountain of Thabana Ntlenyana (3451m) is the highest point south of Kilimanjaro. It is located 9 km inside Lesotho and can be ridden up on mountain bikes on a very rough path. Portaging is also needed in places during the ascent up the mountain.

Day 1 we ride up Sani Pass and stay at Sani Top Chalet and the highest pub in Africa (2850m). Valid passports are needed to enter Lesotho.

Day 2 starts early and we ride the 14 km single track to the top and return the same way, then speed down the pass.
