Amphitheatre via Beacon Buttress Scamble

31 May 2024 by Admin

A one and a half day adventure trip in the Northern Drakensberg with a C grade scramble up an easy ridge then taking in the famous Amphitheatre and the second highest waterfall in the world-Tugela Falls, 880m. Heading back down via the famous chain-ladders. The hike starts and ends at 2500m. The highest point is Beacon Buttress summit, 3142m. The Total distance is 14kms
We hike to a beautiful cave and spend the night there. The next morning hike is on a well marked path, then up a steep gully and onto a narrow ridge. The guide uses a safety rope and we summit Beacon Buttress then hike to the Tugela Falls.
You need to have a head for heights for the chain ladders and the ridge scramble.
