A one and a half day adventure trip in the Northern Drakensberg with a C grade scramble up an easy ridge then taking in the famous Amphitheatre and the second highest waterfall in the world-Tugela Falls, 880m. Heading back down via the famous chain-ladders. The hike starts and ends at 2500m. The highest point is Beacon Buttress summit, 3142m. The Total distance is 14kms
We hike to a beautiful cave and spend the night there. The next morning hike is on a well marked path, then up a steep gully and onto a narrow ridge. The guide uses a safety rope and we summit Beacon Buttress then hike to the Tugela Falls.
You need to have a head for heights for the chain ladders and the ridge scramble.
A popular 2 or 3 day hike taking in the famous Amphitheatre and Mont aux Sources mountain rising to 3282m, the second highest waterfall in the world-Tugela Falls, 880m and ascend the famous chain ladders.
Hiking is on a well marked path and we hike to the summit of Mont aux Sources and then to the Tugela Falls. You need to be fit and able to carry your own backpack and have a head for heights for the chain ladders ascent. A spectacular extra night can be added on by hiking to the Ifidi area and seeing the entire Amphitheatre, Devil’s Tooth and the Ifidi Pinnacles.
We guide this hike at any time of the year. Summer is between November and March and is hot and humid. Autumn and winter have warm days and frosty nights down to minus 8C.
