Next we look at a place sometimes dubbed the Canyon of Dreams, but perhaps better know by the name, White or Wit Umfolozi River. It is a remote venue in northern KZN, 56 kms from Vryheid. It is a small gorge formed out of extremely hard quartzitic rock that is simply a joy to climb on.
Most of the routes start off a sandy river beach area, which lies downstream of a higher multi-pitch Trad and sport climbing cliff. There are simply hundreds of routes from the extremely easy to the ultra hard, and all located within 10 minutes of the camp area. In keeping with the criteria of these posts, this venue has a beautiful camp and braai area just next to the climbing. You can stay in tents, in rustic roofed huts or sleep under the stars on a wooden deck. It is also a place just to relax and is very family friendly. There are even easy, short climbs suitable for children.
