Morgan Bay on the Wild Coast- it is a must for every Trad climber to visit this place at least once in their lives!
There are little gems of the climbing world, often not famous but still top quality venues, and Morgan Bay is one of them. It is a kind of British gritstone, above the Indian Ocean, in the setting of the Wild Coast. The cliffs are not big, but they are of brilliant quality dolorite rock, easily accessible in most areas and all just down the road from a lovely campsite. Many of the routes require some hand-jamming and are generally well protected with a standard rack of gear.
A couple of the must do climbs are The Carnival is Over– a grade 16 classic. Also Purple Rain, at grade 19, which is perhaps the best route at this venue. Once in a Life Time is another must do route that looks several grades harder than its actual grade of 16.
There are endless climbs on many different cliffs to keep most easy to moderate graded climbers happy for days. Accommodation is one of three different campsites or in two different hotels, all with there own charm and features.
